Santa's elves

I think santa's helpers visited my home last night....either that or I have a secret knitting fairy godmother. It's the only explanation I have for why Greyhaven looks a whole lot better today than it did yesterday. Whatever the reason, magic, miracles, secret creations adjusting my mistakes I am quite happy with it now.

Project Stats:
Pattern : GreyHaven by Robin Ulrich
Yarn: cascade yarns 220 superwash
Start date: 16th December .... Completed on 19th December
*second entry for the mysistersknitter holiday knit a long*

20 December 2013

Can you believe it is five days before Christmas and eleven days before the 1st January. Time is surely flying unlike my knitting needles ..... I had every intention of being further along with my holiday gift making buttttttt that plan went out the window. I am so behind schedule I might not be caught up until next Christmas. Oh well in the meantime I am still clicking away...
Greyhaven is finally off the needles. I'm not sure how I feel about the finished product. The excitement level was high when my yarn was delivered (cascade 220'superwash), it was still there when I casted on.....it was even there the second after I snipped the yarn with my scissors.....but that excitement turned to frustration during blocking. I didn't realize that the yarn would bloom the way it did. Instead of having a nice reasonably sized toque for my head I now have a hat that in all likelihood will be gifted to someone else. It has more slouch than I wanted. Greyhaven has certainly been a reminder that this is truly the season of giving.....did someone just say bah humbug?

12:42am Flashback Fridays

I'm happy to report that I finally have another item off my holiday knit list. It's currently being blocked as I type this...Will post more once it's dried. In the meantime check out some of my past finished objects (FOs)

Have you ever had one of those days where you just don't want to be bothered? Yesterday was that day for me. I just didnt want to be bothered. Didnt want to go through the morning commute hassle that is NYC. Just wanted to ignore the clock and stay in bed. But life comes with responsibilities which sometimes take precedence over the urge to call out. It was also the gift exchange day at my workplace. In the past I have not had the best experiences with the secret Santa. I was very skeptical about taking part. Especially since I am still a new employee at my site. I signed up for it only after one of my coworkers revealed the twist to this exchange:- Each participant got to create a wish list naming three items that you would like to receive. The giver would then select which item they would purchase. The maximum limit for the gift was $25. My choices were 1) ball winder from knitty, 2) two skeins of cascade 220 and 3) stitch'n bitch: superstar knitting. I was in such a funk I didnt stay after my shift was over for the dinner and exchange. Butttt waiting home for me was the prize I won from the fallintofall kal/cal hosted by andi over at mysistersknitter. It was my first time participating in a kal. The group consisted of a wonderful set of knitters. I was inspired by the fos and even designs created during the kal. Anyway my prize was that beautiful skein of the Bad Grrl  handpainted sock yarn from Tempted. Also included with the yarn was tea :) definitely my way to unwind after a funky kinda day. I can't wait to knit up this fabulous beauty.

Below are some of the items I made for the knit along....

1) 16 Sixteen cable hat by CircĂ© Belles Boucles. Yarn: malabrigo in sunset

2) Gap-tastic Cowl by Jen Geigley. Yarn: Schoppel-Wolle Pur in 1993 ombre

                3) slouchy bubbles by tshep. Yarn: cascade 220 heathers. Colourway: 9425

4) Barley by tincanknits. Yarn: patons classic wool in dark olive

5)Glowing ember infinity cowl by Karen Ann. Yarn: Patons decor in green

The ruby red hat by Kristen Ashbaugh-Helmreich was made prior to the knit along and as such couldn't be submitted. I plan on giving it away this Christmas.

my sister's knitter is having another kal....this one focusing on holiday gift giving. I finished my first item yesterday.  Rikke by Sarah Young. Made in cascade 220 sport superwash in silver gray

What's on your knitting list this week? Any gift items?
Will post pictures of the gift I received from workplace in next entry

Until next time..... Cee over and out

First blog entry:  this is something I have wanted to do for quite sometime but for one reason or another I have always talked myself out of it. Tonight I have decided to just throw caution to the wind and take a chance. I love to knit and dabble in other crafts. It is my hope that my blog will chronicle my love of creative expressions.
